It was a terrifying act of nature, without question. Never doubt the destructive power of Mother nature.
While it has happened before where animals have been struck by lightning, you rarely see a strike kill on the scale of this event. Knut Nylend, of the Norwegian Nature Inspectorate, surmised that the animals may have gathered close together out of fear, like they are known to do, during the thunderstorm.
Of the dead, 70 were calves. Another five had to be euthanized because of their injuries.
